Palworld TCG Souls Explained: How the Energy System Works

Souls are the Palworld TCG's energy system. How you gain them, how paying costs works, why your total keeps growing every turn, and the rest-3-to-draw trick.

Souls are the Palworld TCG's energy, and they confuse almost every new player in the same way: "I spent my Souls, why do I have MORE now?" Here is the whole system in two minutes.

The short version

  • Every Soul Phase you add 2 Souls from your soul deck to your Soul Area — 2 is the number set at the start of a game (CR 7.4.2.1). If the soul deck holds fewer than that, you move all of it (CR 7.4.2.2).
  • Souls are never used up. Paying a soul cost changes that many Souls in your soul area from standing to resting (CR 10.4.3) — it turns them sideways). They stand back up at the start of your next turn.
  • Your total keeps accumulating: 2 on turn one, 4 on turn two, 6 on turn three, up to the cap of 10.
  • The player going second puts 1 card from their soul deck into their Soul Area during setup (CR 6.2.1.5).

So if you had 4 Souls, spent them all, and see 6 next turn, nothing is bugged. Your 4 rested Souls stood back up and 2 new ones arrived.

Paying costs

Every card shows a cost in its corner. To deploy it, rest that many standing Souls. A cost 3 Pal on a board with 5 standing Souls leaves you 2 standing Souls for the rest of the turn. Since Souls stand up again every turn, your buying power only grows: early turns play cheap Pals, late turns drop your 8 cost bombs.

The rest-3-to-draw rule

Once per turn you can rest 3 Souls to draw a card (CR 8.5.1), and only once per turn (CR 8.5.2). Flooded with energy and out of gas? Convert the extra Souls into cards. This small rule quietly decides long games, do not forget it exists.

Deck-building takeaways

  • Your soul upper limit at the start of the game is 10 (CR 6.1.2.1), which is what caps your Soul economy.
  • Cost curve matters more than raw power. You cannot play a hand full of 6 drops on turn two. Check your curve in the deck builder, it charts this live.
  • Because Souls accumulate on a fixed schedule, you can plan: your cost 4 play lands on turn two, your cost 8 finisher on turn four.

See it in motion

The free browser simulator handles all of this automatically: it places your 2 Souls each turn, rests them when you pay costs, and stands them back up. Play one game and the system clicks. For every other rule, start with How to play the Palworld TCG or the full rules glossary.
